WASHINGTON – The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) today commends the United States District Court’s decision to block the Department of Homeland Security from implementing its Inadmissibility on Public Charge Grounds final rule.

The U.S. District Court’s nationwide injunction recognizes that there are significant deficiencies in the Trump administration’s public charge rule, and that it should not move forward as it is challenged in the courts.

AAPCHO and our members have worked tirelessly against this unamerican rule because we understand firsthand the harm it already has and will continue to cause on our members’ patients, their staff, and their families and communities. No person should have to choose to forgo needed health care out of fear that it could jeopardize their immigration status. This preliminary injunction is a step forward in upholding the rule of law and the values we hold.

AAPCHO applauds the injunction by the U.S. District Court. AAPCHO will continue to work with partners to fight against this rule, so it will ultimately be overturned entirely. AAPCHO and our member health centers look forward to continue serving our Asian American, Pacific Islander, and all immigrant communities and providing them with the high-quality, culturally competent health care they need.
