Join this special screening of a film that follows migrant and refugee families moving through a community health clinic as they build a new home in America

The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) and the Firestarter Group will be hosting a special one-time screening of “Seeds of All Things” at The New Parkway Theater, 474 24th Street in Oakland on Sunday, May 19 at 12:30pm.

In “Seeds of All Things,” filmmaker Dr. Yehuda Sharim looks at the experiences of migrant and refugee families moving through HOPE Clinic, a community health center in Southwest Houston. A city known to be the most diverse in America, Houston is home to the highest concentration of immigrant communities from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Central America. Amid the backdrop of the contentious 2016 Presidential Election, HOPE Clinic serves as a haven for these new and aspiring Americans in need of spiritual, emotional, and physical healing as they navigate the extreme bureaucracy of the U.S. health care system.

The screening, hosted by AAPCHO in partnership with the Firestarter Group, will be followed by a community conversation with director Dr. Yehuda Sharim and special guests. Tickets are available at: SeedsOakland.eventbrite.com.

The film is directed by Dr. Yehuda Sharim, Assistant Professor in the Program of Global Art Studies, University of California, Merced. Dr. Sharim has been working with migrant communities living in Houston since 2014 and “Seeds of All Things” is his third film set in the city. It is produced by Yan Digilov and The Firestarter Group.
